Mulch Calculator
Enter the size of your beds and how deep you want the mulch. Most beds need 2 to 3 inches; go to 3 or 4 inches to smother weeds in a new bed, and keep mulch an inch or two away from tree trunks and stems.
For several beds, work out each one and add them together, or enter the total square footage as the length with a width of 1.
How it’s calculated
- Cubic feet = length × width × depth (in) ÷ 12. Cubic yards = cubic feet ÷ 27.
- Bags: most bagged mulch is 2 cu ft; some is 1.5 or 3 cu ft. A cubic yard is 13.5 bags of 2 cu ft.
